Line Item Property Discounts

Our app gives you the ability to create discounts based on the values of line item properties and cart attributes.
Use cases
- Creating discounts for cart line items with specific properties
- Creating discounts when the cart has a specific cart attribute, such as a delivery method, gift wrap choice, or a value set by a form on your cart page
- Creating discounts for visitors who arrived through a specific link, such as a Google Ads click or a newsletter. See Applying Discounts Based on Landing Page URL.
How to create line item property discounts
To create a new line item property discount:
- On the home screen of the app, click "Create discount."
- Scroll down to "Advanced discount types."
- Click "Line item property."
Line item property eligibility conditions

Options:
- Property name: The line item property to read from line items when the discount logic is being evaluated.
- Compare by: Choose operators such as "Equals," "Not equals," "Contains," etc. to tailor line item property eligibility to your liking.
- Property value: A static value to compare the line item property's value to when the discount logic is being evaluated.
Cart attribute conditions

Cart attributes are key/value pairs that apply to the whole cart, rather than a single line item. Themes and apps usually set them with a field on the cart page named attributes[your-key]. They appear under "Additional details" on the order in your Shopify admin.
To add one, open a "Check if" step, click "Add criteria," and choose "Cart attribute."

Options:
- Attribute key: The name of the cart attribute to read, exactly as it appears in your theme (for example,
delivery_method). - Compare by: "Equals," "Not equals," "Contains," "Starts with," or "Ends with."
- Values: One or more values to compare against. The condition passes if the attribute matches any of them.
Comparisons are not case-sensitive. If the cart does not have the attribute at all, its value is treated as empty, so a "Not equals" condition will pass.
Unlike line item properties, a cart attribute condition passes or fails for every item in the cart at once.
Landing page URL conditions are a special kind of cart attribute condition, recorded automatically by the Discounts Embed. See Applying Discounts Based on Landing Page URL.
Limitations of Line Item Property Discounts
Due to the Shopify Functions Input Query Complexity Limitation, line item property and cart attribute conditions had to be put in their own separate discount type, rather than being available in other discount types. Also, due to this limitation, several features that are available in other discount types are not available in line item property discounts (though you can submit a feature request). These limitations are largely about some discount conditions not available in Line Item Property Discount.
FAQ
What is the maximum number of line item properties that can be referenced in one discount?
The maximum number of line item properties that can be referenced in a discount is 2.
What is the maximum number of cart attributes that can be referenced in one discount?
The maximum number of different cart attribute keys that can be referenced in a discount is 2. You can check each key as many times as you want.
Why doesn't the discounted price on my product page reflect my cart attribute condition?
The Discounted Price block reads cart attributes when the page loads. If your cart attribute is changed on the cart page, the product page will reflect it the next time it loads. Private cart attributes (keys starting with __) are hidden from your theme, so the Discounted Price block cannot read them. They still work correctly at checkout.
